Behind the documentaries: the journey of Conoscere la Natura

This blog was created to tell the story of what usually remains outside the frame: the time, observation and choices that led to the documentaries by Conoscere la Natura.

A project born in the field

The project is the result of more than ten years of work and the passion of a group of friends who later became the founding members of the association. The aim has always been clear: to make Italian nature accessible through reliable, carefully documented content combining scientific accuracy with the power of images.

This long journey produced 12 videos devoted to Italy’s main natural environments: woods, countryside, wetlands and mountains. Animals and plants were filmed directly in their habitats, with respect for the environments and the organisms living in them.

From observation to storytelling

The documentaries feature 191 animal and plant species, filmed close up to make identification easier. The images are accompanied by authentic sounds from nature, original music composed for the project and professional narration in both Italian and English.

Each species is also connected to a fact sheet exploring its key characteristics, habitat and reproduction. A special documentary for children completes the collection, introducing younger viewers to biodiversity through simple and engaging language.

What this blog will explore

Future articles will take readers inside the process behind this work. We will share:

• the natural environments explored and the species encountered;
• the journey from footage to narration, sound and music;
• the creation of the scientific fact sheets;
• educational activities with schools, associations and local institutions.

This will be a journal of the project and a place to look more closely at what often goes unnoticed. Because learning about nature is the first step towards understanding its value, respecting it and protecting it.
